Catharīnus

Catharīnus, Ambrosius, eigentlich Lancelot Politi, geb. 1487 in Siena, studirte Jurisprudenz, lehrte seit 1502 in Siena u. an anderen italienischen Universitäten das Civilrecht, trat 1521 in Florenz in den Dominicanerorden, begleitete den Cardinal del Monte 1545 zu dem Concil nach Trient, wurde 1546 Bischof zu Minori, 1551 Erzbischof zu Corpa im Neapolitanischen u. st. 1553 in Rom. Er war ein gelehrter aber streitsüchtiger Theolog u. verschonte selbst weder die Kirchenväter, noch die Dogmen der Kirche mit seinen Angriffen u. Ausstellungen. Er schr. u.a. Commentaria in epistolas Pauli, Ven. 1551, Fol.; Enarrationes in Genesin, Rom 1552, Fol.; mehrere seiner Abhandlungen sind gesammelt als Opuscula, 1542.
