Aikin (spr. Ehkin), 1) John, geb. zu Yarmouth 1716, anfangs Arzt, später Literat; war Herausgeber des Monthly Magazine u. des Annual Review, u. schr. außer medicinischen Schriften: Miscellaneous pieces, Lond. 1773 (deutsch Altenb. 1775); Über die Anwendung der Naturgeschichte auf die Dichtkunst (deutsch von Schmidt, Lpz. 1779); Die Abende zu Haus, Lond. 1773 ff., 6 Bde.; Briefe eines Vaters an seinen Sohn über verschiedene Gegenstände der Literatur u. des Lebens, ebd. 1798–1800, 2 Bde.; Die Kunst des Lebens, ebd. 1802; auch gab er eine General-Biographie heraus. 2) Arthur, Sohn des Vor., Naturforscher, übersetzte Denons Reisen in Ägypten ins Englische, schr. Tagebuch einer Reise in Wales u. Shropshire, Lond. 1797; Lexicon der Chemie u. Mineralogie, ebd. 1809, 2 Thle., 4 Bde.; arbeitete viel mit 3) Karl Rogusan, seinem Bruder.
