Antigŭa, 1) eine der kleinen Antillen, gehört den Engländern, liegt nördlich von Guadeloupe, 5 QM.; 45,000 Ew.; gut angebaut, Producte: Zucker, Baumwolle, Tabak, Ananas etc. Gebirge: Shekerleysberge: (höchster Monkshill od. Mönchsberg), Bai: Greenbai; hat Mangel an Wasser, gute Häfen mit beschwerlichem Zugang, darunter Johns- u. Fünfinselhafen. Sitz eines Gouverneurs u. Lagerplatz der englischen Flotten. Entdeckt 1493 von Columbus, von den Briten besetzt 1632 u. 1636 durch Lord Willoughby colonisirt. Hauptstadt: Johnstown, s.d.; 2) Stadt auf Panay, einer der Bissayerinseln; 3) (S. Maria de A.), so v.w. Jamaica.
