Aonĭa

Aonĭa, alter Name von Böotien, angeblich von einem alten König, Aon, Sohn des Poseidon od. Zeus, welcher, wahrscheinlich aus dem Orient kommend (vgl. Aoisch), sich hier niederließ. Daher Aonier, so v.w. Böotier, u. alles Mythische, was auf Böotien Bezug hat, bes. der Aonische Berg, so v.w. Helikon; die Aonische Quelle, so v.w. Aganippe; die Aonische Grotte, die Grotte auf dem Helikon, wo die Musen, daher Aonĭdes, wohnten.
