Assemāni, 1) Joseph Simon, Maronit vom Berge Libanon, geb. 1687 zu Tripoli in Syrien, studirte in Rom, brachte von 2 Reisen aus dem Orient (1717 u. 1738) viele Handschriften, Münzen u. a. Alterthümer mit u. st. 1768 zu Rom als Custos der Vaticana u. päpstlicher Kammerherr. Er gab heraus: Bibliotheca orient. Clementino-Vaticana. Rom 1719–28, 4 Bde., Fol.
