Azĭmuth

Azĭmuth (arab., Astr.), der Winkel (Azimuthalwinkel), den sein Vertical am Zenith mit dem Meridiane macht; das Maß desselben ist ein Bogen des Horizonts. Je nachdem dieser Bogen vom Mittagspunkte ab nach O. od. W. auf dem Horizonte bis 180° fortgezählt wird, hat man einen östlichen od. westlichen A. A. der Magnetnadel, Bogen des Horizonts, zwischen dem magnetischen u.[111] dem eigentlichen Meridian. Daher Azimuthal, den Scheitelwinkel betreffend; Azimuthaldifferenz, der Unterschied zweier Azimuthe; ergibt sich in den Finsternißberechnungen, wenn man die Distanz des Mondes von der Sonne od. vom Stern mit dem Sinus des A-winkels multiplicirt. Azimuthalkreis, 1) so v.w. Almukantharat; 2) jeder in Grade etc. eingetheilte, wagerecht gestellte Kreis an einem astronomischen od. geodätischen Instrument, auf dem Horizontalwinkel gemessen werden. Azimuthallinie, die gerade Linie, welche den Durchschnitt der Verticalebene mit der des Horizonts bildet. Azimuthalquadrant, 1) jeder Quadrant, mit dem horizontale Winkel genommen werden; 2) bes. ein astronomischer Verticalquadrant, der an seiner Drehachse einen horizontalen, in 2 × 180° eingetheilten Kreis hatte, u. der, nachdem die Linie der 180° in die Mittagslinie gebracht worden, eines beobachteten Gestirns Höhe u. Azimuth zugleich angab. Durch die Vollkreise ersetzt.
