Bema (gr.), 1) der Meilenschritt, nach welchem die Alten ihre Meilen bestimmten. Das kleine B. = 21/2, das große (doppelte) B. = 5 Fuß. 2) in den alten Kirchen vorn im Chor ein erhöhter Sitz für den Bischof, wenn er nicht von dem Bischofssitz aus predigen wollte, u. für den Presbyter, wenn dieser die Predigt hielt; 3) Sterbetag des Manes, s.d.
