Billington

Billington (spr. Billingin), Elisabeth, geb. 1769 in London, Tochter eines reisenden deutschen Musikus Weichsel, trat schon im 7. Jahr als Clavierspielerin in London auf u. heiratbete 1786 den Musiker Thomas B., der sie nach Dublin entführt hatte; hier ging sie aus Noth als Sängerin aufs Theater, später, als ihr Vater ihr verzieh, auf Coventgarden in London, dann nach Paris, wurde Sacchini's Schülerin, kehrte nach London zurück u. fand dort großen Beifall; sie ging 1794 nach Italien, wo sie, wie schon in England, ausschweifend lebte; heirathete 1799 nach dem Tode ihres ersten Gatten (der zu Neapel, wie man sagt an Gift, starb) den Lyoner Florissent, lebte auf einem Gute bei Venedig u. kehrte 1801 nach London zurück, wo sie von Neuem Beifall fand, aber schon 1807 verließ sie das Theater u. lebte seit 1817 auf ihrer Villa St. Artive bei Venedig, wo sie 1819 starb.
