Nelson, 1) Grafschaft im Staate Virginia (Nordamerika), 16 QM.; gebirgig, namentlich im Nordwesten (Blue Ridge); Flüsse: James u. Rockfish Rivers; Producte: Mais, Weizen, Tabak; 1807 gebildet u. genannt nach Thomas Nelson, früherem Gouverneur von Virginia; 1850: 12,758 Ew., worunter 6142 Sklaven; Hauptort: Lovingston; 2) Grafschaft im Staate Kentucky, 14 QM., vom Salt River u. Pottinger's Creek durchflossen; Producte: Mais, Weizen, Obst, Rindvieh, Pferde, Schweine, Schafe; die Louisville-Chattanooga Eisenbahn durchschneidet die Grafschaft; 1781 gebildet; 1850: 14,789 Ew., worunter 5130 Sklaven; Hauptort: Bardstown; 3) N. River, Fluß im Gebiete der Hudsonsbaicompagnie (Britisches Nordamerika), entsteht aus dem Nordende des Winipeg-Sees u. fällt in die Hudsonsbai; 4) (Cap N.), Vorgebirge an der westlichen Südküste der englischen Colonie Victoria (Australien); 5) Nelson Straße, Straße zwischen Cap N. u. der Kings Insel, bildet den nordwestlichen Eingang zur Baßstraße.
