Chowan (spr. Tschowan), 1) Fluß im Staate Nord-Carolina (Vereinigte Staaten von Nordamerika), aus der Vereinigung des Meherrin u. Nottaway-Rivers gebildet, mündet in den Albemarlefound; 2) Grafschaft im Staate Nord-Carolina, 191/2 QM.; Flüsse: Chowan-River, Albemarlefound, beide an der Westgrenze; Boden ziemlich eben u. fruchtbar; Producte: Mais, Baumwolle, Bataten; Name von den Chowanokes. Indianern, welche hier wohnten; 7000 Ew., worunter über 3000 Sklaven. Hauptstadt Edenton.
