Conoīd

Conoīd (Conoides, Math.), Körper, der durch Umdrehung einer krummen Linie um eine Achse entsteht, wenn die Linie diese Achse schneidet u. ihre auf der Achse senkrechten Ordinaten mit ihrem Abstande von jenem Schneidungspunkte immerfort zunehmen. Der Körper ähnelt sodann einem gleichseitigen Kegel. Bes. bemerkenswerth sind die parabolischen u. die hyperbolischen C-en, jener durch eine Parabel, dieser durch eine Hyperbel, bei Umdrehung um die Achse dieser Linien erzeugt. Schon Archimedes hat in einem eigenen Buch über die C-en u. die Sphäroiden die Figuren der Schnitte u. den Inhalt der körperlichen Abschnitte derselben bestimmt.
