Convolvulus

Convolvulus (C. L., Winde), Pflanzengattung aus der Familie der Convolvulaceae-Convolvuleae, 1. Ordn. 5. Kl. L.; Arten: sehr zahlreich, theils mit windendem, theils nicht windendem Stängel. Merkwürdig: a) Windende: C. scammonia, in Syrien, Kleinasien u. in mehreren Gegenden des Orients heimisch (s. Scammonium); C. mechoacanna, in Südamerika, wovon die Mechoacannawurzel; C. soldanella, am Meeresufer mehrerer europäischer Länder wild wachsend; das stark purgirende Kraut ehedem als Herba soldanellae s. brassicae marinae im Gebrauch; C. arvensis (Ackerwinde), mit röthlich gestreiften Blumen, häufig als lästiges, das Getreide auf den Feldern umwindendes Unkraut, doch gutes Schaffutter; C. sepium (Zaunwinde), mit großen weißen Blumen, häufig an lebendigen Zäunen u. Hecken; beide enthalten ein scharfes Harz u. waren sonst als abführende Mittel als Herba et radix convolvuli minoris et majoris officinell. b) Nichtwindende: C. cneorum, in Südeuropa heimisch, mit seidenartig behaarten Blättern, wird, sowie C. tricolor, krautartig, mit blauen, weißen u. gelben Blüthen, aus Südeuropa u. Afrika stammend, u. noch mehrere andere, als Zierpflanze cultivirt; C. scoparius, Sträucher, auf den Canarias, dem Ginster ähnlich, von dem, sowie von C. floridus, einem holzigen, reichblühenden Strauch auf Teneriffa, eine Sorte Rosenholz kommen soll; C. gujanensis Aubl., in Guiana, liefert ein wohlriechendes Holz; C. Turpethum, C. Jalappa, s. u. Ipomaea; C. Batatas, s. u. Bataten.
