Cottin (spr. Kotteng), Sophie C. geb. Ristand, geb. in Tonneins 1773; heirathete 17 Jahre alt einen Banquier C. zu Paris, verlor ihn aber schon nach 3 Jahren u. beschäftigte sich fortan mit Schriftstellerei, deren Ertrag sie zu wohlthätigen Zwecken verwandte; sie st. in Paris 1807. Sie schr.: Oeuvres, Par. 1806, 8 Bde., n. Ausg. 1820, 12 Bde. Von ihren Romanen sind übersetzt: Clara von Alben (von Meißner), Prag 1806; Malwina (von Stampen), Frankf. 1802 f., 3 Thle.; Elisabeth (von Lindau), Lpz. 1808, 2 Bde.
