Cromarty, 1) Grafschaft in Nordschottland, 5 QM., liegt sehr zerstückelt in verschiedenen Gegenden der Grafschaft Roß, theilweis gebirgig, theilweis Moorboden; Producte: Getreide, Rindvieh, Schafe; gegen 6000 Ew. treiben Fischerei (Flußperlen), einige Fabriken in Hanf u. Flachs; 2) Hauptstadt darin am gleichnamigen Busen, Hafen für 400 Schiffe, Hanfweberei, Fabriken von Segeltuch, Schiffsbau, Brauerei, Handel; 2600 Ew.; dabei der Farquhars-Bed (Fels mit natürlicher Brücke) u. die versteinernde Quelle Dripping Well; 3) (Frith of C.), Meerbusen an der Ostküste von Nordschottland (zwischen der Grafschaft Roß u. dem östlichen Theil der Grafschaft C.).
