Dardanĭa

Dardanĭa, 1) (a. Geogr.), District in Kleinasien, oberhalb Ilion, längs dem Hellespont, von Abydos bis Rhöteion, an welchem die Landspitze Dardănis hervorsprang. An dieser lag die Stadt Dardănos (Dardănon, Dardania), wo der Rhodios in den Hellespont mündete; das alte Homerische D. war früh zerstört, später aber von den Äoliern wieder aufgebaut worden u. war Sitz des gleichnamigen Königs. Hier fiel im Peloponnesischen Kriege eine Seeschlacht vor, in welcher die Athener siegten. Im Frieden mit Antiochos erklärten sie die Römer für frei; hier schloß Sulla 84 v. Chr. mit Mithridates Frieden, u. nach D. wurden die Dardanellen (s.d.) genannt. Die Ein- u. Umwohner von D. hießen Dardanii, waren Stammverwandte der Trojaner u. werden daher mit den Trojanern verwechselt; Äneas war ihr König. 2) District in Moesia superior, nach seinen Bewohnern, den musikliebenden Dardăni, benannt; umfaßte den Südosttheil des jetzigen Serbien u. des Sandschakat Skopia. 3) Stadt in Hispanien nahe am Gebirge Dardanus, jetzt angeblich Orduña.
