Distinct (v. lat.), unterschieden, deutlich, vernehmlich; daher Distinction, 1) Unterscheidung, Auszeichnung durch Ehre u. Ansehen, der Vorzug; 2) (Log.), die deutliche Vorstellung des Unterschieds ähnlicher od. verwandter Begriffe; 3) (Grammat.), Unterscheidungszeichen, s. Interpunction. Daher Distinctiv, unterscheidend; 4) (Distinctionen), die Unterabtheilungen, in welche der 1. u. 3. Abschnitt des Decretum Gratiani (s.u. Corpus juris canonici) zerfällt. Die sächsischen D., auch Buch der Ausscheidung, Rechtsbuch nach D. genannt, ist ein mittelalterliches, der Familie des Sachsenspiegels angehöriges, namentlich in obersächsischen Städten gebräuchlich gewesenes Rechtsbuch von einem unbekannten Verfasser, bald in 6, bald in 7 u. 8 Büchern. Beste Ausgabe von Ortloff, Das Rechtsbuch nach D., Jena 1836. Distinguiren, 1) unterscheiden; 2) mit Auszeichnung behandeln. Distinguendum est, es ist ein Unterschied zu machen.
