Exposition

Exposition (v. lat.), 1) Aussetzung, z.B. Expositĭo infantum, Aussetzung der Kinder (s.d.); 2) Ausstellung; z.B. Expositĭo sanctissĭmi, in der Katholischen Kirche die Ausstellungdes Allerheiligen, s.u. Ausstellung 4); 3) Erklärung, Auslegung; 4) der zweite Theil einer Rede, welcher die Angabe des Themas u. der Theile enthält, s.u. Rede; 5) im Drama die Darstellung der geschichtlichen Voraussetzungen u. localen Verhältnisse, welche zum Verständniß der eigentlichen Handlung des Drama zu wissen nöthig sind, füllt gewöhnlich den ersten Act des Drama (s.d.) aus. Im antiken Drama hat die E. mehr die Form einer Erzählung, mit welcher eine Hauptperson od. ein Bote die Handlung einleitet; das moderne Drama sucht die Absicht des Dichters, eine E. zu geben, im Monologe od. Dialoge zu verstecken u. leitet historische Stücke mit Volkssconen ein, welche in charakteristischen Zügen den Hintergrund erkennen lassen, auf welchem die Haupthandlung sich entfaltet.
