Formātae

Formātae (F. epistŏlae, F. litĕrae), Briefe, welche nach der vorgeschriebenen Norm der kirchlichen Behörden gemacht waren; sie wurden durch Beschluß des Concils von Nicäa (325) eingeführt, um Betrug zu vermeiden; auch die folgenden Concilien stellten Decrete über die F. fest. Sie waren eine Art Reisepässe, welche von dem kirchlich Vorgesetzten dem kirchlich Untergebenen mitgegeben wurden, wenn diese eine Reise in andere Diöcesen machten, u. zwar entweder der Commendatio (Empfehlung), od. der Dimissio (Entlassung), od. der Communio (Gemeinschaft) halber. Zu den F. gehören: a) Literae communicatoriae, Legitimation, daß die Reisenden nicht Pötitenten u. als solche von der Theilnahme an der Communion ausgeschlossen seien; b) Literae dimissoriae, eine Art Entlassungs- od. Beurlaubungsscheine, ohne welche kein Kleriker eine andere Diöcese betreten durfte; c) Literae pacificae, freundschaftliche Briefe an bekannte u. befreundete Kleriker.
