Gallĭo

Gallĭo, Bruder des L. Annius Seneca u. hieß eigentlich Marcus Annäus Novatus, aber von dem Rhetor Junins G. adoptirt, erhielt er die Namen Junius Annäus G.; er war 53 u. 54 unter Claudius Proconsul in der Provinz Achaia u. hatte seinen Sitz in Korinth. Er nahm hier den Apostel Paulus gegen die Juden in Schutz u. wurde unter Nero nebst seinem Bruder hingerichtet. Nach ihm Gallionismus, Gleichgültigkeit gegen Verschiedenheit der Religionen, weil man aus Apostelgeschichte 18, 12 irrig schließt, daß ihm Heidenthum u. Judenthum gleichgültig gewesen sei, während er nur Streitigkeiten über Glaubenssachen als nicht vor den weltlichen Richterstuhl gehörig abwies; daher Gallionisten, Indifferentisten hinsichtlich der Religion.
