Ganĕsa

Ganĕsa (Ganeça), Gottheit der brahmanischen Inder, ein Sohn des Siwa u. Bruder des Kartikeja (Kriegsgottes), ist der Gott der Klugheit. Sein Cultus ist einer der angesehensten; er wird bei dem Beginn eines jeden Werkes angerufen. Alle indischen Bücher beginnen mit der Formel: Verehrung sei dem G. Er wird abgebildet mit einem Elephantenkopfe (als Symbol der Klugheit) u. hat neben sich die Rake (als Symbol der Schlauheit u. Vorsicht). Seine Farbe ist roth. In seinen vier Händen trägt er eine Schlange, Glocke etc.
