Oglethorpe (spr. Ogelßhörp), 1) Grafschaft im Staate Georgia (Nordamerika), 22 QM.; Flüsse: Bread u. Oconee Rivers, Beaverdam, Cloud's, Millstone u. Long Creeks; Producte: Baumwolle, Mais, Weizen, Hafer, Bataten; Eisen, Gold, Granit; die Athens Zweigbahn der Georgia Centralbahn durchschneidet die Grafschaft; 1703 organisirt u. genannt nach General James Edward Oglethorpe; 1850: 12,259 Ew., worunter 7874 Sklaven; Hauptort: Lexington; 2) Stadt in der Grafschaft Macon des Staates Georgia am Flint River u. der Georgia Südwestbahn; Handel, namentlich mit Baumwolle; O. wurde 1850 gegründet u. hatte 1856 über 4000 Ew.; 3) (Oglethorpe University), eine 1838 von den Presbyterianern gegründete Universität in Midway bei Milledgeville im Staate Georgia.
