Inŭus, 1) Heerdengott der Latiner, dessen Heiligthum (Inni castrum) bei Cere lag; 2) Gattung der eigentlichen Affen der alten Welt; mit Backentaschen u. nackten Gesäßschwielen, ohne Schwanz od. höchstens von 1/3 der Körperlänge, Schnauze breit u. etwas vorspringend, Gesichtswinkel 45°, Kopf rundlich, Eckzähne nicht viel größer als die anderen; Arten: Gemeiner od. Türkischer Affe (Magot, I. sylvanus), in Nordafrika u. auf Gibraltar s. Magot; Makako (I. cynomolgus s. Macaco cyn. et cynocephalus), auf Java; Bauch- od. Schweinschwanzaffe (I. s. M. nemestrinus), auf Sumatra.
