Lecythis (L. L.), Pflanzengattung aus der Familie der Myrtaceae-Lecythideae, 13. Kl. 1. Ordn. L., durch hölzerne, ringsum aufspringende Samenkapseln ausgezeichnet; Arten: südamerikanische Bäume, L. zabucajo, mit großen, eßbare Kerne enthaltenden Früchten; L. ollaria (Affentopf, Topfbaum), in Brasilien, mit angenehm, wie Pistacien schmeckenden u. roh od. gekocht genossenen Nüssen; aus der Schale werden Trinkgeschirre, dem Äußeren nach gebrannten Töpfen gleichend, gefertigt; L. grandiflora, in Cayenne, mit 2 Zoll messenden, rosenfarbenen Blüthen, urnenförmig 7 Zoll hohen holzigen Kapseln, schmackhaften großen Kernen.
