Palămas, Gregorios, lebte im 14. Jahrh. Anfangs am Hofe des Kaisers Johannes Kantakuzenos, wurde dann Mönch auf dem Athos, wo er der dort herrschenden Mystik sich ergab u. in Thessalonich den Hesychastischen Streit (s.d.) veranlaßte; der Kaiser ernannte ihn 1349 zum Erzbischof von Thessalonich, da ihn aber die Stadt als einen Heterodoxen nicht aufnahm, so begab er sich auf die Insel Lemnos; auf der Synode zu Constantinopel 1351 wurde die Ansicht seiner Anhänger approbirt.
