Lincoln, Benjamin, geb. 1733 zu Hingham in Massachusetts, war bis 1770 Farmer, trat dann bei dem Aufstand der Amerikaner unter die Waffen, wurde Oberstlieutenant, führte Washington bedeutende Streitkräfte zu u. stieg bis zum General, erlitt aber im Süden mehre Niederlagen. 1780 wurde er gefangen, jedoch bald gegen den General Philipps ausgelöst; wohnte dann dem Siege bei Yorktown bei, besorgte hierauf drei Jahre lang die Geschäfte eines Kriegsministers u. war als Mtglied des Convents für die Föderativverfassung sehr thätig; st. 1810.
