Cushion-dance

Cushion-dance (engl., spr. Kosschen Dänns, d.i. Kissentanz), alter englischer, bes. bei Hochzeitsfesten üblicher Tanz mit Gesang, welcher sich lange erhielt u. in vertraulichen Familienzirkeln noch getanzt wird. Dabei stellen sich alle Paare in einen Kreis; ein Tänzer, ein (gewöhnlich rothsammetnes) Kissen unter dem Arme, chassirte im Saale in die Runde u. forderte eine Dame auf, diese trat mitten in den Kreis, wo er das Kissen vor sie legte u. sie, während sie darauf niederknieete, küßte. Nun nahm die Dame das Kissen unter den Arm u. chassirte mit dem Tänzer durch den Saal, forderte einen Herrn auf u. küßte diesen, während er auf das Kissen kniete. Und so ging es fort, bis die ganze Gesellschaft in den Ring aufgenommen war, worauf sie wieder unter ähnlichem Ceremoniell von einander schieden.
