Mariupol

Mariupol, Stadt im Stadtgouvernement Taganrog des russischen Gouvernements Jekaterinoslaw (Südrußland), liegt am Kalmius u. Asowschen Meer; 7000 Ew., welche viel Saffian fertigen, Seide bauen u. etwas Handel treiben. Die Stadt ist von Griechen 1779 gegründet worden; am 5. Juni 1855 wurde die Stadt von der englischen Flotte bombardirt.
