Placūna (P. Brug., Scheiben- od. Kuchen- [175] muschel), Muschelgattung aus der Familie der Austern, mit fast gleichen, unregelmäßigen, flachen Schalen, innen unter dem Wirbel mit zwei, wie ein V auseinanderstehenden Rippen zur Befestigung des Bandes; Arten im Meere: P. placenta, echte Kuchenmuschel, weiß, durchscheinend, ganz flach, mit etwas gekreuzten Längsstreifen; 3–4 Zoll groß; in Indien; P. sella, der polnische Sattel, in Indien, selten u. theuer; P. junensis, fossil im Korallenkalke, z.B. bei Hoheneggelsen.
