Poliziano, Angelo, gewöhnlich Angelus Politianus, eigentlich Cino, geb. 1454 zu Monte Pulciano im Toscanischen, wurde Hausgenoß Lorenzo's von Medici u. Erzieher der Kinder desselben (unter ihnen des nachmaligen Papstes Leo X.) u. 1480 Professor der Römischen u. Griechischen Literatur. Aus ganz Europa strömten ihm Schüler zu; er st. 1494. P. gehört unter die Wiederhersteller der klassischen Literatur u. schr.: Stanze per le giostra di Giuliano de' Medici; Griechische Epigramme (Flor. 1495); Lateinische u. italienische Gedichte (Flor. 1513, Ven. 1819); Orfeo (Drama 1472, Pad. 1749, Ven. 1776); Pactiana conjuratio (Flor. 1478, von Adimar, Neap. 1769. Pisa 1800); Epistolae (Par. 1499); Miscellanea (Flor. 1489); u. übersetzte den Kallimachos (zuerst 1764), Herodianos (Rom 1493), Epiktetos u. Platons Charmides ins Lateinische; Werke, Bas. 1653. Vgl.
