Rectification

Rectification (v. lat.), 1) Berichtigung, Gehörigmachen; 2) Berichtigung eines Urtheils, einer Meinung, Hebung des falschen Scheins; 3) wiederholte Destillation einer schon destillirten Flüssigkeit, um sie noch reiner zu erhalten. Dazu dient der Rectificator od. Dephlegmator, s. u. Branntweinbrennen I. J). Auf diese Art erhält man den rectificirten Weingeist (Spiritus vini rectificatus, u. als höchst rectificirten rectificatissimus); 4) die Verwandlung eines Bogens einer krummen Linie in eine ihr gleiche gerade; es geschieht dies mit Hülfe der Differential- u. Integralrechnung. Diejenigen Bogen, an denen die R. ausgeführt werden kann, heißen rectificable, das Verfahren selbst rectificiren. Die R. des Kreises kann durch fortgesetztes Ausziehen von Quadratwurzeln bewerkstelligt werden, s. Quadratur des Kreises. Wilh. Neil, van Hevraet u. Fermat fanden in der Mitte des 17. Jahrh. fast zu gleicher Zeit die R. der Parabel: 5) R. eines Instruments, die sorgfältige Bestimmung der möglichen Fehler eines geodätischen od. astronomischen Instruments, welches zu Messungen angewandt werden soll.
