Sentimental

Sentimental (v. fr.), 1) von zarten Empfindungen, empfindsam, gefühlvoll; 2) empfindelnd. Daher Sentimentalität, 1) das Übergewicht der Empfindung (d.h. der inneren Reizbarkeit) über das thätige Streben; 2) die Neigung zu sanften Gefühlen (Sehnsucht, Rührung etc.); 3) nach Schiller u. Goethe, im Gegensatz zu Naivetät (s.d.) das Übergewicht des Subjectiven über das Objective in der poetischen Darstellung. Vgl. Schiller, Über naive u. sentimentalische Dichtung im 12.
