Spectrum (lat.), 1) Gestalt, Bild; 2) Gespenst; 3) (S. oculare), Augentäuschung (sd. 2); 4) eine begrenzte Stelle im Raume od. auf einer Fläche, in welcher Strahlen von verschiedener Brechbarkeit (beim Licht also von verschiedener Farbe) neben einander einfallen, nachdem sie zuvor mit einander gemengt u. unter sich parallel (beim Licht also z.B. als weißes Licht) durch einen schmalen Spalt gegangen, darauf aber durch ein Prisma, dessen Kante dem Spalte parallel steht, divergent gemacht worden sind. So spricht man vom S. des Sonnenlichts (s. Sonnenspectrum) od. irgend eines andern leuchtenden Körpers, von einem Wärmespectrum etc.
