Tompkins, 1) Grafschaft im Staate New York (Nordamerika), 26 QM., im Westen theilweis vom Senecasee begrenzt, im Innern der Cayugasee, vom Fall Creek durchflossen, Boden hügelig, fruchtbar u. trefflich angebaut; Producte: Weizen, Mais, Hafer, Rindvieh, Schafe; Industrie in Wolle, Holz, Eisen u. Leder; die Auburn-Ithaka u. die Cayuga-Susquehanna Eisenbahn durchschneiden die Grafschaft; 1817 aus Theilen der Grafschaften Cayuga u. Seneca gebildet u. genannt nach Daniel D. Tompkins, ehemaligem Gouverneur des Staates New York; 1850: 38,746 Ew.; Hauptstadt: Ithaka; 2) Städtischer Bezirk mit Postamt im Staate Delaware des Staates New York, am Coquago River u. der Eriebahn; 3500 Ew.
