Yates (spr. Jehts), 1) Thomas, geb. 1768, war Beamter in der Abtheilung für die gedruckten Bücher im Britischen Museum u. st. 1839 in London; er schr.: Hebrew Grammar, 1812, u.ö.; Syriac Grammar, 1819, 2. A. 1821; India Church history, 1818; Remarks on Bible chronology, 1830; On the antiquity, origin and design of the Pyramids, 1833. 2) William, Engländer, Missionär bei der Baptistenmission in Calcutta, welcher sich bes. um das Sanskrit u. das Bengali u. namentlich um die Bibelübersetzung Verdienste erworben hat; er schr.: Sanskrit Grammatik, Calc. 1820; Sanskrit-bengalisch-englisches Wörterbuch, ebd. 1820; Sanskritenglisches Schulwörterbuch, ebd. 1846; Introduction to the Hindustani language, ebd. 1827, 3. T. besonders 1853 herausgegeben wurde. 3) Mrs. Y., Tochter John Bruntons, berühmte Schauspielerin, geb. 1799, betrat 1817 zuerst in Coventgarden die Bühne, heirathete 1824 Yates, Director des Adelphi-Theaters, spielte auf dieser Bühne bis 1842 u. st. 30. August 1860.
