Arcāde

Arcāde (v. fr.), 1) Reihe von Bogen zwischen Pfeilern, wobei stets zwischen 2 Pfeilern 1 Bogen geschlossen wird. Die Bogen auf Säulen ruhen zu lassen, kam bei den Römern erst beim Verfall der Kunst auf. Die Breite der A-n verhält sich meist zu ihrer Höhe mindestens wie 1 zu 2, die der Pfeiler zu dem Bogen am besten, wie 2 zu 3. Oft werden A. zur Einfassung eines Hofs, oft auch an der äußern Seite eines Gebäudes angebracht, u. manchmal in mehrern Stockwerken über einander gesetzt; bes. bekannt sind jetzt die A. des Hofgartens zu München, s.d.; 2) Tanztour, wo die ecossaisenmäßig antretenden Paare durch Reichen der Hände eine Art von Arcaden bilden.
