Barthŏlin (Bartholinus), 1) Kaspar, geb. 1585 zu Malmö in Schonen, studirte erst Theologie u. Philosophie zu Rostock u. Wittenberg, dann Medicin, wurde 1610 Lehrer der Medicin in Kasan, 1613 Professor der griechischen Sprache u. der Medicin u. 1624 auch der Theologie zu Kopenhagen; st. 1629 zu Sora. Er schr.: Institutiones anatomicae, Wittenb. 1604 u.ö., u. in viele Sprachen übersetzt (neu bearbeitet von dem Folgenden), u.a.m. 2) Thomas, Sohn des Vor., der berühmteste Arzt u. Anatom seiner Zeit, geb. 1616 zu Kopenhagen, wurde 1647 Professor der Mathematik u. 1648 der Anatomie daselbst, 1661 zog er sich nach Hagestad zurück, wurde 1670 königlicher Leibarzt u. st. 1680. Um die Anatomie u. Physiologie hat er sich durch Entdeckungen, vorzüglich im Lymphsystem, hohe Verdienste erworben. Er schr.: Anatomia locupletata, Leyd. 1641 u.ö. Major ha Hochma heraus. 4) Erasmus, Bruder des Vor., geb. 1625 zu Rothschild; lehrte von 1657 bis an seinen Tod 1698 zu Kopenhagen Geometrie u. Medicin; er schr. u.a.: Principia matheseos univers. u. gab den Heliodoros Larissäus, Kopenh. 1674, heraus. 5) Thomas, Sohn von B. 2), geb. 1659, wurde Professor der Geschichte u. der Rechte zu Kopenhagen, Archivar des Königs von Dänemark u. st. 1690; er gab heraus: H. Meibomius de flagrorum usu in re venerea, Leyd. 1629 u.ö., zuletzt Fkf. 1670; Antiquitates danicae, Kopenh. 1670, 1680, u.a. 6) Kaspar, Bruder des Vor., geb. 1654 zu Kopenhagen, wurde 1690 Professor der Medicin u. st. 1704; er schr.: Diaphragmatis structura nova etc., Par. 1676, 1782; De ovariis mulierum et generationis, Rom 1677; De ductu salivali, Kopenh. 1664; Specimen hist. anatomicae partium, ebd. 1704, u. m. a.
