Waisenhaus, Blindenindustrieschule, Leinenhalle, Hafen, Schiffswerfte u. Docks; starker Handel mit Leinwand, baumwollenen Zeugen, Glas u. landwirthschaftlichen Erzeugnissen, bes. nach Amerika; ü. er 100,000 (1755 nur 8600, 1818 30,000) Ew.; 2) Hafenstadt u. Gerichtssitz des Cantons Walck im Staate Maine in den Vereinigten Staaten, an der Penobscot-Bai; unregelmäßig gebaut; bedeutender überseeischer u. Küstenhandel, Fischerei u. Schiffbau; 5250 Ew.; 3) mehrere kleinere Orte in den Staaten New-York, Pennsylvanien, Tennessee, Ohio u. Java.
