Briggs (spr. Brigs, Briggius), Henry, geb. 1556 zu Warley Wood in Yorkshire; wurde 1590 Professor der Geometrie in London, 1619 in Oxford u. st. 1631. Er beschäftigte sich vornehmlich mit Logarithmen u. begründete das noch gewöhnliche Briggsche System (s.u. Logarithmen). Er schr.: Tafeln zur Vervollkommnung der Schifffahrt, Lond. 1610; Logarithmorum chilias prima, Lond. 1617; Arithmetica logarithmica, ebd. 1624, Fol. (die Grundlage aller spätern logarithmischen Tafeln); Trigonometria britannica, Gouda 1633, Fol., von Gellibrand vollendet.
