Bytown (spr. Beitann), Hauptstadt der Grafschaft Carleton, in West-Canada, am rechten Ufer des Ottawa u. der Bytown- u. Prescott-Eisenbahn; in die obere u. untere Stadt getheilt, mit einem Hospital u. Nonnenkloster. Einer der blühendsten Orte in West-Canada, mit bedeutendem Handel auf dem Ottawa- u. Rideau-Canal; gegen 8000 Ew.
