Chlorāl

Chlorāl (Chloraldehyd, Chem.), C4HCl3O2, ein Product der Einwirkung von Chlorgas auf absoluten Alkohol, bildet sich auch durch Destillation von Zucker, Stärke od. Milchsäure mit Braunstein u. Salzsäure; farblose, dünne, fettig anzufühlende Flüßigkeit, welche auf Papier Fettflecken macht, die bald verschwinden; riecht eigenthümlich durchdringend u. zu Thränen reizend, schmeckt fettig u. schwach schrumpfend; es ist sehr scharf; es reagirt auch, in Wasser gelöst, nicht sauer u. fällt Silberlösung nicht; es siedet bei 94° u. läßt sich unzersetzt destilliren; spec. Gewicht = 1,502; mit Wasser gemischt erhitzt sich der Chloral u. erstarrt nach einiger Zeit zu einem Haufwerk von Krystallen von Chlorhydrat, C4HCl3O2 + 2 aq.; wässerige Alkalien zersetzen das Ch. in der Wärme u. bilden Chloroform u. Ameisensaures Kali.
