(Withe-Mountains) u. wenig zur Cultur geeignet, nur längs der Flüsse fruchtbar; Producte: Mais, Hafer, Kartoffeln; große Waldungen; Gewerbthätigkeit in Wollen- u. Lederwaaren, Stärkefabriken, Sägemühlen, Holzhandel; die Great-Atlantik-St. Lawrence-Eisenbahn durchschneidet den südlichen Theil der Grafschaft; organisirt 1803; Name von den großen Fichtenwaldungen (coos, indianisch für Fichte); 1850: 11,853 Ew.; Hauptstadt Lancaster.
