Correlation

Correlation (v. lat.), 1) gegenseitige Beziehung; 2) Beziehung von 2 Wörtern od. Sätzen auf einander, so daß das od. der eine die Frage od. den Satz, das od. der andere die Antwort od. die Vergleichung enthält. Hieher gehören Comparatiwerhältnisse u. Vergleichungen; daher Correlativwörter (Correlativa), solche C. bezeichnend, wie die Pronomina: wer? – dieser, Jemand, keiner etc.; die Partikeln: wo? – hier, dort etc.; wie? – so, also etc.; die unbestimmten Zahlwörter: wie viel? – so viel; der wievielste? – der erste etc.; so auch bei Comparativen das Maß bezeichnende Wörter, wie: je – desto; um wie viel – um so viel. Solche Verhältnisse ausdrückende u. durch solche Correlativwörter angedeutete, zu den coordinirten Sätzen gehörende Sätze heißen Correlative Sätze; 3) gegenseitige Mittheilung, z.B. von Entschließungen, welche coordinirte Collegien sich mittheilen, s. Reichstag; 4) der Vortrag des Correferenten, s. Relation.
