Curator (lat.), 1) der Besorger einer Sache, Aufseher darüber; so: C. alvei et riparum, so v.w. Comes alvei et riparum; C. annonae, Aufseher über den Vorrath u. Preis von Getreide u. Öl; C. aquarum, so v.w. Consularis aquarum; C. calendarii, Einnehmer der Einkünfte einer Stadt; C. cloacarum, Aufseher über die Cloaken; C. domus Augustae, kaiserlicher Hausverwalter, welcher die Rechnung der Einnahmen u. Ausgaben führte; C. frumenti. Aufseher über die Austheilung des Getreides; C. ludorum, der für Schauspiele das Nöthige bereitete u. auf Ordnung sah; C. operum publicorum, Aufseher über öffentliche Staatsgebäude; C. urbis, von Alex. Severus dem Praefectus urbi beigegebener Magistrat, um diesen in Gerichtssachen zu unterstützen, u.a.; 2) derjenige, welchem eine Curatel übergeben ist; so C. absentis, so v.w. Abwesenheitsvormund, s. Curatel 1) u. Abwesenheit 2); 3) Beamter, welchem in den deutschen Bundesstaaten vom Staate die nähere Aufsicht über die Universitäten übertragen ist, s. u. Curatel 2).
