Dauni

Dauni (a. Geogr.), aus Epiros stammendes, von Diomedes nach Italien geführtes Volk auf der Nordküste Apuliens, zwischen den Flüssen Trento u. Aufidus; das Land hieß nach ihnen Daunia, nach And. hatte dieses Land seinen Namen von dem Konig Daunus, zu welchem Diomedes kam; es kam[763] durch die Samnitischen Kriege an die Römer u. ist das jetzige Terra di Bari u. ein Theil von Basilicata.
