Dodwell, 1) Henry, geb. 1641 in Dublin, wurde 1688 Professor der Geschichte in Oxford, legte aus politischen Gründen dies Amt 1691 nieder, lebte seitdem als Privatgelehrter in Schottesbrooke u. st. 1711. Von seinen Schriften sind die theologischen für die bischöfliche Gewalt oft wunderlich, die philologischen aber für Chronologie wichtig, so: Dissertationes Cyprianicae, Oxf. 1684; Dissertationes in Irenaeum, Lond. 1698; Praelectiones Camdenianae, Oxf. 1692; Annales Vellejani, Quintiliani, Statiani, ebd. 1698; De Graecorum Romanorumque cyclis, ebd. 1701; Annales Thucydidei et Xenophontei, ebd. 1702; Chronologia Xenophontea, ebd. 1703; De aetate Dionysii Halic., ebd. 1704; seine Schriften gab im Auszug Fr. Brokesby, Lond. 1723, heraus. 2) Edward, geb. 1767, bereiste 1801–6 Griechenland u. Italien, u. starb 1832 zu Rom. Er schr.: A classical and topographical tour through Greece, Lond. 1819, 2 Bde. (deutsch von Sickler, Mein. 1819, franz. Strasburg u. Paris 1834); Views in Greece. Seine Wittwe, Therese geb. Gräfin Giraud, vermählte sich 1833 mit dem Grafen Karl Spaur (s.d.) u. lebt, seit 1854 wieder Wittwe, in Rom.
