Edict, so v.w. Edictum, bes. 5); so: E. von Amboise, gegeben 1572 von Karl IX. König von Frankreich; enthält Bestimmungen über die neue Organisation der Polizei; E. von Chateaubriand, gegeben 1551 von Heinrich II, enthielt Bestimmungen über die Bestrafung der Calvinisten; E. von Cremieu, von Franz I. von 1536, enthielt ein Regulativ über die Gerichtsbehörden; E. von Melun, gegeben 1580 von Heinrich III. zu Paris, so genannt, weil es Klagen u. Erinnerungen an den in Melun versammelten Clerus enthält; E. von Nantes, Urkunde, durch welche Heinrich IV. von Frankreich den Hugenotten 1598 freie Religionsübung ertheilte. Nach Heinrichs Tode wurde es vielfach verletzt u. endlich auf Louvois Rath von Ludwig XIV. 1685 widerrufen, worauf die Verfolgungen der Protestanten wieder anfingen u. die Auswanderungen begannen; vgl. Refugiés, Hugenotten[477] u. Frankreich (Gesch.); Ewiges (immerwährendes) E., a) (Ewiger Friedenstractat, Immerwährende Verordnung), zwischen den Niederländern u. Don Juan d'Austria geschlossen u. am 12. Febr. 1577 zu Marche en Famine unterzeichnet, s. Niederlande (Gesch.); b) 1665 von de Witt durchgesetzter Beschluß, daß der Generalcapitán der See- u. Landmacht in den Niederlanden nie wieder zugleich Statthalter sein durfte; 1672 von der Oranischen Partei aufgehoben; s. Niederlande (Gesch.).
