Ethelred, I. König von Mercia: 1) E., Sohn Pendas, folgte seinem Bruder Wolpher u. reg. 675–704, s. England (Gesch.) IV C) c); er st. als Mönch. II. Könige von Northumberland: 2) E. I., regierte 774–96 mit Unterbrechung, s. ebd. IV. C) b). 3) E. II., regierte in der Mitte des 9. Jahrh., wurde von Readwuls vom Throne gestoßen, erhielt denselben wieder u. wurde 4 Jahre nachher erschlagen. III. Könige von England: 4) E. I., Sohn Ethelwolfs, folgte seinem Bruder Ethelbert u. regierte 866–71, s. ebd. V. 5) E. II., Sohn Edgars u. Elfriedens, folgte seinem Bruder Eduard II. u. regierte 978 bis 1016, s. ebd. Er war vermählt mit Elgive, u. in zweiter Ehe seit 1002 mit Emma, Tochter des Herzogs Richard I. von Normandie.
