Faba (lat.), Bohne, botanisch als Art unter Vicia; Fabae albae, in der Pharmacie die Samen von Phaseolus vulgaris u. Ph. nanus (s. b.). Faba bengalensis, Galläpfel auf den Blättern von Terminalia Chebula, s.d.; F. Cacao, s. Cacao. Faba de Tonka (Tonkabohne, Tonkobohne), der Same von Dipteryx odorata, dient zum Parfümiren des Schnupftabaks. Faba Iguatii (F. indica, F. febrifuga, Ignatiusbohne), die sehr bitteren Samen von Strichnos Ignatii s. Ignatia amara, von den Philippinen, inder Wirkung den Krähenaugen ähnlich. Faba inversa, Erbrechen erregende Früchte von Anagyris foetida, aus der Familie der Papilionaceae-Podalyricae. Faba Libidibi, Schoten von Caesalpinia Coriaria (s.d.), der Familie der Papilionaceae-Caesalpinieae angehörende Pflanze; dient zum Färben. Faba marīna, Früchte von Entada Gigalobium, aus der Familie der Mimoseae; die Hülsen sind 5–7 Zoll breit, daher Riesenhülsen genannt; sie sind arzneikräftig. Faba Pichurim (Pichurimbohne), die von Nectandra Puchury major u. minor aus der Familie der Laurineen.
