Febrŭus

Febrŭus (Reiniger), römischer Beiname des Pluto od. Vater des Pluto. Man feierte ihm in Rom die Februalĭa vom 18. bis 20. Februar, ein Sühnungsfest. Reinigungsmittel (Febrŭa), bestehend jn Harz, Pech, Schwefel etc., wurden ausgetheilt; diese zündete man an u. durchräucherte damit die Häuser. Am Ende dieses Festes folgten die Fe ralia, eine Todtenfeier, wo man den Manen Opfer brachte, um dieselben zu sühnen.
