Indusĭum

Indusĭum, 1) (röm. Ant.), wollenes u. linnenes, bes. von Frauenzimmern auf dem Leibe getragenes Unterkleid, vgl. Hemd; 2) (Bot., das Schleierchen), eine eigene, gewöhnlich dünnhäutige Bedeckung des Fruchthäuschens der Farrenkräuter, welche meist aus der Oberhaut gebildet ist. Daher Indusiatus, geschleiert, d.h. mit einem I. versehen.
